The Speech/Language Therapist provides comprehensive language and communication assessment and intervention services for students, and participates in delivering an educational program aimed at allowing each student to attain his or her maximum language and communication potential. He or she works with other staff members as an integral part of a professional team to provide an appropriate educational program for each student.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Educational Supervisor, Associate Chief School Administrator, Chief School Administrator (in that order).
WORKERS SUPERVISED: None
EDUCATION: A BS or M.Ed. from an accredited Speech/Language Therapy Program. Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a school Speech/Language Therapist. Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a speech-language pathologist is required. Current and valid certification in CPR and First Aid is required (will provide training).
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of an approved college course and degree is required. Two or more years experience working with a pediatric population preferred. Successful experience as a Speech Therapist in a Special Education setting, familiarity with augmentative communication devices, facility in basic sign language are preferred.
PHYSICAL: The ability to lift, position, and feed students with handicaps, assist them physically in transferring to and from wheelchairs to other equipment, and lifting on to and off of school transportation vehicles. Willingness and ability to assist students with feeding and toileting needs. Must be able to perform as noted on attached Physical Demands Sheet.
