Jeff and his late wife, Susan, moved to Pittsburgh in 1971. They lived on Shady Avenue and walked past The Children’s Institute regularly, while enjoying the shops of Squirrel Hill. As an educator, Susan became deeply moved by the mission and soon, the Parkers became annual supporters.
After Susan’s passing in 2014, Jeff wanted to honor her life by continuing to give to the causes she cared so deeply about, including The Children’s Institute. In addition to leaving a gift to The Children’s Institute Foundation in his will, Jeff also contributed a medallion in Susan’s honor, located within our
Nimick Family Therapeutic Garden. The Parker family takes comfort in knowing that Susan’s memory lives on at The Children’s Institute.
For others considering leaving a planned gift to the charities they care deeply about, Mr. Parker says:
“There are institutions and causes that play a role in our lives and leave their imprint in our memories. The Children's Institute is such a place for me because of the challenging but necessary work it does and the model of continuous adaptation to changing times it offers. The memories it evokes, now over 50 years later, of walking by the facility holding hands with my bride of less than a year are very special to me and our family. I honor those days of hope and limitless possibilities for us and the amazing kids who have been served through my planned gift in Susan's memory.”
